Sew with a Quiltworx
Certified Instructor
master the quiltworx technique of the month
October 12 - 17, 2027 | 50 Acre Woods – Palmyra, TN
Join us at 50 Acre Woods for an immersive, highly technical Quiltworx workshop led by Julie Connell, Certified Instructor, focused exclusively on the 2027 Quiltworx Technique of the Month designed by Judy Niemeyer.
This is a special opportunity to work on one of Quiltworx’s newest and most anticipated releases. The Technique of the Month pattern will be introduced in fall 2026, giving participants time to select their direction and prepare for an in-depth instructional experience in October 2027.
For this workshop, Julie will create two custom colorways for participants to choose from. Quilters may also choose to use Judy Niemeyer’s designated colorway or develop a colorway of their own. No matter which path you choose, you’ll be working within a structured, technique-driven format designed to help you succeed with this complex and beautiful project.
Unlike some of Julie’s other workshops, this retreat is dedicated to one project only: the Quiltworx Technique of the Month. Participants will not be bringing outside projects or works-in-progress from home. This focused format allows Julie to provide detailed instruction on the specific techniques, organization, precision, and construction methods required for success.
If you enjoy a challenge, love precision piecing, and want expert guidance through a sophisticated Quiltworx design, this workshop was made for you.
Come prepared to learn deeply, stay focused, and experience the satisfaction of working through a truly exceptional Quiltworx project in a supportive retreat setting.

Julie Connell, Certified Instructor – Quiltworx
Julie Connell has been sewing since the 6th grade, when she first learned the craft from her mother. Her passion for textiles only grew as she went on to study Textile Design at the University of Iowa, where she began designing her own garment patterns. While raising her five children, Julie continued sewing—creating clothing, Halloween costumes, and exploring her love of fabric, color, and creativity.
Although she long admired the artistry of quilting—the precision, attention to detail, and intricate piecing—it wasn’t until 1993, after the birth of her youngest son, that she took her first hand quilting class. She was instantly hooked. For more than 25 years, quilting has remained a constant passion, with Julie continually refining her skills and techniques.
In 2014, Julie’s quilting journey took a transformative turn when she began working at Batiks Plus in St. Louis. There, she discovered Quiltworx through an online class taught by Certified Instructor Jackie Kunkel. Inspired to go deeper, Julie traveled to Montana to train with Judy Niemeyer, where she experienced firsthand the organization, precision, and step-by-step methods that define Quiltworx patterns. That experience sparked a deep appreciation for the process—and a passion for mastering it.
Since then, Julie has completed more than 40 Quiltworx projects, ranging from small table toppers to large, intricate quilts. She has trained with multiple Certified Instructors and brings a depth of experience that allows her to guide quilters through even the most complex designs with confidence.
Julie now shares her knowledge through workshops, quilt shops, guilds, and private classes across Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Tennessee. Known for her patient, encouraging teaching style, she loves helping quilters build confidence and successfully complete their Quiltworx projects.
Biography
About the workshop
The Quiltworx Technique of the Month (TOM) is one of the most anticipated pattern releases from Judy Niemeyer, designed to take quilters deep into the art and precision of foundation paper piecing.
Released approximately every two years and available exclusively through Certified Instructors and Shops, these patterns are known for their complex construction, striking visual impact, and structured learning approach.
Each Technique of the Month quilt is built around a progression of advanced techniques, carefully organized into sections that allow quilters to develop skills step-by-step. From cutting and organization to precision piecing and final assembly, the process follows the signature Quiltworx system, known for its accuracy and repeatable success when done correctly.
This October 2027 workshop is designed as an immersive, start-to-finish experience focused entirely on the newest Technique of the Month release (fall 2026). Rather than dividing the project over multiple months, you’ll work intensively in a retreat setting with expert guidance from Julie Connell, Certified Instructor, allowing you to build momentum, maintain consistency, and fully understand each step of the process.
Because of the technical nature of this pattern, this workshop is intentionally structured for one project only. Every participant will be working on the same Technique of the Month design, ensuring that instruction is highly focused, detailed, and tailored to the specific challenges of this quilt.
You’ll have the flexibility to choose your creative path:
Select from two exclusive colorways designed by Julie
Use the official Quiltworx colorway by Judy Niemeyer
Or create a custom colorway of your own
This workshop is ideal for quilters who are ready to elevate their skills, embrace precision, and commit to a detailed, technique-driven project. With Julie’s guidance and the focused environment of 50 Acre Woods, you’ll gain not only progress on your quilt—but a deeper understanding of the Quiltworx method that you can carry into future projects.
